DIRFloortime® &
Affect-Based Language Curriculum
DIRFloortime® is a specific technique to both follow the child’s natural emotional interests (lead) and at the same time challenge the child towards greater and greater mastery of the social, emotional, and intellectual capacities.
During “floortime,” we join in the child's play to increase opportunities for pleasurable interaction and engagement. The child’s actions are considered intentional and purposeful, and we follow their lead helping to validate their sense of self. Preferred objects and activities are used to motivate and facilitate persistence and patience. Higher level skills and concepts are taught through interactive play.
The purpose of the Affect-Language Curriculum (ABLC) is to provide families, therapists and teachers a systematic, intensive program based on both new insights and tradional knowledge of the development of communication and language.
